Biography
Born in 1983, Brian Patrick Bromberg began composing at age 14. He attended Illinois State University from 2001-2005, where he studied
composition with David Feurzeig and Serra Hwang. During these four years he completed a Bachelor's degree in music
composition and cello performance.
Additionally, Brian studied conducting with Glenn Block and ethnomusicology with Nathan Hesselink. At age 20,
Brian received his first commission from The Northbrook Chamber Orchestra for which he composed Shades of Green.
Several more commissions followed, which include Impressions for Orchestra, Kind of Kismet, and an arrangement
of Deck the Halls.
Recently, Brian completed his Masters in composition with Anthony Richie and gamelan studies with Joko Susilo
at the University of Otago, located in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Brian's most current influences include Lionel Shriver, Gyorgy Ligeti, Thomas Ades, Blonde Redhead, Sufjan Stevens,
Leon Kirchner, Mary Karr, Bela Bartok, Osvaldo Golijov, and Anton Webern.
Brian's most recent compositions include his second Chamber Symphony, Thought Crimes for Solo Cello, and a commission
for The Western Springs Violin Ensemble.
